Back again...

Well I am back for another go at blogging...I have been busy getting my ducks in a row to start Homeschooling Gwyneth...something I never in a million years thought I would do.

Here's how it all came about...

A few weeks ago I checked out a book from the library called The Well-Trained Mind by Jessie Wise. Nolan and I have been lamenting for quite some time that Gwyneth is not being challenged in school so I thought I could get some ideas for how to supplement her schooling at home. The book does have information about this, they call it After Schooling (appropriately). However after reading the first two chapters I realized that if we really want to change the course of Gwyneth's education in a significant, way we would need to start managing it ourselves.

At first we had decided to finish out First Grade, and "try out" homeschooling in the Summer. After much back and forth we have decided that there is no time like the present to start. Meeting with a homeschooling family with 5 children convinced us that it is possible, and that we won't be freaks...of course we still feel like freaks (but hopefully that will pass).

I am excited and nervous. Gwyneth is happy about being at home, but I am sure she will go through a period of sadness as she realizes her "friends" are still in school...I don't want her to be sad, but I know in the end this choice will be the best for her. I also realize that the "friends" she has in school are little more than acquaintances and that she will make more!

So now all that is left to make it official is writing a letter to the school...I'm off to work on that now!
